The Problem

The Crisis

Foster care is at the root of many social challenges affecting our community.

Children enter the foster care system because of neglect, abuse, or parental inability to provide a safe environment. Unfortunately, once in the system, many face:

• High levels of trauma.

• Emotional and physical neglect.

• Disrupted placements, creating instability.

Without consistent support, these children are at significant risk for lifelong struggles, including:

• 70% of foster youth face homelessness after aging out.

• 80% of children in the system suffer from mental health issues.

• 97% of young adults will immediately enter into chronic poverty.

Why It Matters

The foster care crisis doesn’t just impact children—it affects entire communities.

Every child deserves a safe, loving home. The consequences impact not only the children but our society as a whole, perpetuating cycles of poverty, incarceration, and addiction. Foster children without the proper support are:

  • 3x more likely to face incarceration.

  • 10x more likely to become homeless.

  • Significantly more likely to experience teen pregnancy and substance abuse.

  • 71% of young women who age out will become pregnant within the first two years.

  • 50% of youth aging out of the foster care system will develop a substance dependence.

But the church can step in to reverse this trajectory. Churches have the power to provide loving, stable and sustainable environments that can transform these outcomes.

  • 50% of parents who foster quit during or after the first placement. But with a caring community, this same family will continue to foster 92% of the time.

Consistent, loving adult relationships minimize trauma and ensures healthier outcomes for children. Putting faith in action means that we grow deeper in our walk while reaching the broader community for Christ.
